THE ROLE
The Senior Researcher, Old Master Paintings will serve a core member and research specialist for the Old Master Paintings department in New York. They will manage the research workflow and produce cataloguing at the highest level for all Old Master Paintings sales, both at auction and private sale.
They will work closely with our network of colleagues in Europe and cultivate their role as a full and active member of the global Old Masters departments.
Close co-operation and good communications with colleagues in the Old Masters and greater Global Fine Arts departments. Using national and international networks to ensure a consistent, client-focused message, delivering a high standard of active client management.
The candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge, passion, and commitment to the field, be willing to travel and will have in-depth knowledge of the Old Masters field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supporting the department through research, photography and condition reporting in accordance with scheduled Old Master Painting deadlines;
- Providing guidance and support to junior specialists in their research, appraisals and business-getting endeavours;
- Working with the department on catalogue productions, including proof-reading, design, and layout;
- Play a key role in sourcing property, including travel and client visits as appropriate
- Maintaining an exceptionally high-level of client service, both internally and externally (colleagues and public)
- Operating at all times in accordance with the company’s rules on compliance and corporate governance
- Facilitating high level private treaty sales where appropriate
- Preparation of proposals
- Preparation of valuations for Insurance etc
- Maintain high levels of expertise and professionalism in all activities
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Specialist knowledge of Old Master Paintings and Restitution
- Degree holder or equivalent (Old Masters related MA or PhD preferable)
- Ability to effectively access archives and reference sources
- Commitment to Client Service
- Language and Communication skills as appropriate
- Flexible and receptive to change
- Ability to work independently and as part of a tea
The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $60,000-$80,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
